Northeast Girls NPL becomes the newest addition to

US Club Soccer’s National Premier Leagues

CHARLESTON, S.C. (April 26, 2013) – US Club Soccer has announced the creation of the Northeast Girls NPL as the newest addition to the organization’s National Premier Leagues (NPL).

The Northeast Girls NPL will bring the total number of NPLs across the country to 18, with 11 clubs from five states set to compete in the U-13 through U-18 age groups.

The following clubs will begin play in the Northeast Girls NPL during the Fall 2013 season:

·         Connecticut FC (Conn.)

·         East Meadow SC (N.Y.)

·         FC Stars of Mass.

·         Scorpions SC (Mass.)

·         SoccerPlus Elite (Conn.)

South Division

·         FC Bucks (Pa.)

·         Match Fit Academy FC (N.J.)

·         PDA (N.J.)

·         Penn Fusion (Pa.)

·         World Class FC (N.J.)

  

“The NPL has enjoyed tremendous success in the northeast and we’re thrilled to be expanding that competitive landscape with the Northeast Girls NPL,” NPL General Manager Chris Baer said. “These 11 clubs will make for a league filled with high-quality talent and competition, and we’re excited for play to kick off this fall.”

Teams in the U-13 and U-14 age groups will play 20-game seasons, and U-15 through U-18 teams will play 14-15 games per year. With competition split into two divisions, the top squads from each will face off in semifinals and a final to determine champions.

“It is fantastic for our club to be part of the Northeast Girls NPL and further strengthen our association with US Club Soccer,” FC Stars of Mass Director of Coaching Jason Dewhurst said. “The league structure provides an optimum development platform for our players, facilitates appropriate player movement within all teams in our club and provides high-level competition against top-quality clubs and considerable college exposure for our older players. We are very much looking forward to the start of the Northeast Girls NPL next season."

As with all NPLs, the winners of the Northeast Girls NPL will qualify for next year’s NPL Champions Cup, where they will take on top competition from around the country in a true “champions league” competition. The 2013 NPL Champions Cup will be held July 18-22 in Aurora, Colo.

“PDA is very excited to be part of the Northeast Girls NPL,” PDA Girls Director of Coaching Mike O’Neill said. “The opportunity to improve the development and overall experience for the players at PDA is our top priority. Being part of the Northeast Girls NPL with other top clubs will accomplish that and much more.”

In the opening game the EDP-TIP Squad defeated SKHY FC from Trinidad and Tobago by a convincing margin of 5-0.   "Overall the boys did very well trying to play good soccer under challenging weather conditions. More important than the result was the pride the boys showed towards their performance," said Tony Williams, EDP Director of Youth Development.  Goals were contributed by Andrew Aprahamian (Penn Fusion), Jonathan Filipe (2-Beachside), Conrad Williams (South Jersey Elite Barons) and Jack Beer (NYSC). Overall it was a great first performance of the tournament.

 

The event hosts 180 teams from 19 different counties and 22 different states.

"The Dallas Cup is a great competition and opportunity for my teammates and I to showcase our talent and skill.  Everyone was extremely excited and couldn’t wait," said Jack Beer, NYSC.

 

"Man of the Match" Jack Beer (NYSC) for his contribution to the game.  Jack lead the team with 2 assists and a goal of his own.  "Our goal was to be the most professional and passionate team, and we were, and it showed in the result we got today.  We don’t know who is going to be the champions, but what we did know was that we could compete with the character of champions," Jack Beer, NYSC.  The TIP squads next game will be Monday vs. Seleccion RCL Soccer Monterrey from Mexico.

EDP-TIP 1999 Boys Select Squad Picks Up Second Win at Dallas Cup

Dallas, TX.  The EDP TIP select squad completed their second game of the Dallas Cup with a 2-0 win.  "In difficult conditions the players showed excellent character and spirit and are really jelling together nicely as a team," Jeff Bookma, EDP Technical Dorector.  The squad competed against Seleccion RCL Soccer Monterrey from Mexico.  Goals were scored by Jonathan Filipe (Beachside SC) and Kexxer Camarco (Hanlopen).  

 

"Man of the Match" was given to Andrew Aprahamian (Penn Fusion SC) for his outstanding leadership and level of play today.  "We played really well today even though the field restricted our play at times.  In the end our commitment and professionalism got us the result," Andrew Aprahamian, Penn Fusion soccer Academy. 

 

The TIP squad had a rest day today where they took to the pool for a regeneration session and participated in a character of Champions workshop.  The squad will resume play on Wednesday with their last group game of the tournament vs Arsenal FC (CAS).    

 

Jonathan Filipe (Beachside SC) who has lead the team with 3 goals so far in the tournament is eager for the match tomorrow   "No matter what the final score is we will come out the hardest working team and the team that has the most pride on the field," Jonathan Filipe, Beachside SC.

Dallas, TX.  The EDP-Tip 1999 Boys Select Squad advanced to the quarterfinals of the Dallas Cup today with a 1-0 win over Arsenal FC (CAS).  The lone goal of the match was scored by Jack Beer (New York SC).  "It’s been amazing how this team has come together so quickly culminating with today’s performance.   A great defensive display, which you would normally see by a team which has been playing together for years not weeks," Scott Middlemass, South Jersey Elite Barons Boys Technical Director.

 

With a tremendous team effort the TIP Squad has gone undefeated through the group stages.  "We held possession well and took our opportunity when it presented itself.  This has been a great experience for us all and we have really started to gel as a group," Evan Godfrey, PDA.  

 

It’s not all serious business as the team was able to get away for a group meal where they honored the President of MSSL, Steve Shilling, for all his generous support of the program.  The group would like to say a big Thank You to Steve.

 

The Eastern Development Program and TIP would like to extend a special congratulations and good luck to the following EDP members as they also advanced in the Dallas Cup:  New York SC White (17B), Penn Fusion (17B) TSF Academy X (15B), and TSF Ginga (17B).

These are exciting times in the local soccer community.  As you may know, in 2009 West Chester United Soccer Club and Spirit United Soccer Club formed a joint venture called Penn Fusion Soccer Academy to ensure that the players in both clubs we given every opportunity to play at the highest level in youth soccer. Penn Fusion has quickly grown to a premier club on the local,regional and national level. On the girl’s side, Penn Fusion is a member of the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL), which is focused on the development of female youth soccer players at the highest level in the country. On the boy’s side, Penn Fusion competes at the Region I Premier League, USYS National League, and Eastern Development Program (EDP) levels. Through player development, Penn Fusion provides opportunities to, and has successfully placed, players in all levels of collegiate soccer programs. Our relationship with the Philadelphia Union affords us a clear pathway for our players to progress to the Union Juniors and Union Academy programs.

 

West Chester United Soccer Club has recently been informed by Spirit United Soccer Club of their intention to withdraw from Penn Fusion and pursue a change in direction for the 2013-2014 soccer season, which will dissolve the current joint venture. To that end, West Chester United sends its best wishes to Spirit United Soccer Club and its members.

 

Moving forward, Penn Fusion will be managed by West Chester United, including its Board of Directors, Directors of Coaching, and staff. West Chester United’s plans are simple - We are 100% committed to the long term success of Penn Fusion and West Chester United. Our vision is to evolve the game of soccer to the highest level through a crystal clear commitment to player development.

 

Our coaching directors are continually working to improve our developmental approach to our players as well as sourcing the best coaches available, locally, nationally and internationally.

 "Last week I went back to Crewe Alexandra to train for the second time this year. I had five training sessions and played in two games, both against premiership opposition in West Brom.  First, I played with the U14’s.  It was an offensive shoot out that finished 6-5 favoring West Brom.  The second game I played, once more against West Brom, finished 2-1 them.  I played with the U15’s and West Brom is considered one of the best teams in the U.K. for this age.  It was a very physically demanding game and extremely fast paced.  I played both holding and attacking center mid and never could take more than three touches.  I learned valuable skills and gained even more respect for not only Crewe, but all of English football.  This was a fantastic experience and I can’t wait to go back and train again. I would like to thank Coach Alex, Dario and James for a wonderful week!" - A.McFadden
