4/13/12 - The Penn Fusion ’95 Boys team was one of 180 teams selected from over 30 countries such as Brazil, England, Germany, France, China, Japan, Mexico and the USA to compete at the XXXIII Dallas Cup on April 1st - 9th. Upon arriving at the hotel it was evident from the very start that this was a much different tournament than the team had ever played in. The electric vibe that permeated the lobby was contagious. Conversations in German, Spanish, Portuguese, and Japanese all had a common element ... a smile on everyone’s face. It was obvious that this was going to be a great experience.

The PFSA95 Boys U16 bracket consisted of FC Golden State (CA), Odyssey Blue (TX), and Torreon (MX). The opening game against FC Golden was a great game with end to end action. There were some quality opportunities and goalkeeping on both teams but it was Golden State who found the back of the net with a late goal. Despite pressing hard in the final minutes the boys suffered a 1-0 defeat to a quality side. The team’s performance improved consistently during the week and ended very positively with a resounding win over CD Torreon (Mexico) 8-1 with braces from Evan Dwyer, John Roos, and Matt Greer and singles from Joe Hansen and Kris Gross. The boys ended up second in their bracket to FC Golden State who ended up a finalist in the U16 age group.

Apart from their own competition, the team had the pleasure to watch Gordon Jago Super group matches such as Manchester United vs FC Dallas, Cortiba FC (Brazil) vs Club Bolivar (Bolivia) and Everton FC vs Kashiwa Reysol (Japan). Sideline seats to these games gave the boys an up close look at some of the best U19 players in the world. The different style of play between countries, teams and individual players was very educational and inspirational.

Congratulations to the Penn Fusion 95 Boys team on representing Penn Fusion SA well on and off the field. Congratulations should also be given to the Dallas Cup organizing committee. From registration, through opening ceremonies and even through two tornados that hit Dallas Tuesday night the tournament ran flawlessly. The pitches were spectacular, competition was great, and the quality of the referees was nothing short of outstanding. It was truly a pleasure to experience for player, coach, and fan.

3/13/12 - Penn Fusion ’95B team had a successful showing at the 2012 Jefferson Cup! The team competed in the highest level showcase flight and finished on top with 23 points. Play started with a 3-0 win over VA state champions, Loudon Red. Coach Lee Martin said, "Our key was to be really solid at the back and build from that. If we could break them down and get a goal, the opponents would have to change their game plan and then it would open the game up for us and we have the players with the technical ability that can play one-and two-touch and just keep the ball all game. I think second half we controlled the game. I think we had maybe two-thirds of the possession and over a full game, if you control the possession, you’re probably going to end up and win the game.” The team then tied PAW state champions, Arsenal FC Gunners 0-0 before beating KY state champions, United Internationals 2-0 in the final game. Click here for more.
